Pulling together

I know we are all mindful of the horrific tragedy at Grenfell Tower which has taken so many lives and caused irrevocable damage by tearing families apart. The way everyone in the community has pulled together to support one another is fantastic to see. In business, we too have a duty to support our communities, doing everything we possibly can to help the victims and families affected in the immediate aftermath, as well as in the longer term.

I have seen my business rally in this difficult time. Our Residential team has been working with the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea housing team to help find accommodation for those displaced. Our Hotels team has helped to find local hotel owners able to offer rooms for those affected.

I am the Chair of CBRE’s UK Communities and Giving Group which works very closely with our UK charity partner, Shelter. With our continuing support, Shelter was able to deploy housing advisors and a resettlement worker to the local area within hours of the tragedy, and has been working around the clock since then to help those who have lost their homes. I cannot put into words how important this work is to me and CBRE. We all have a duty to contribute to the communities we live and work in, and every contribution, no matter how small is very important. My fellow employees have raised an incredible amount of money for Shelter over the past two and a half years, through volunteering activities and team fundraising – including a record £48,000 raised by the 700 riders who took part in our UK Property Bike Ride event at the end of June.

Like many, CBRE has made a corporate donation to help support the hundreds of people impacted at Grenfell Tower but we are not stopping there. The link below leads to a donation page which provides an opportunity for giving which I’d encourage you to visit. The continuing support this receives is ample evidence of both the level of concern and the generosity engendered by this tragedy, making me proud to be the Chairman of our Communities and Giving Group, working with some fantastic colleagues in raising not only money but also awareness of those in need of our help and support.

If you would like to make a donation, our CBRE donation page can be found here: www.shelter.org.uk/cbre.
